When an online platform offers an AI writing assistant, in 99% of cases, they haven't developed their own artificial intelligence. Instead, they connect to third-party services provided by tech giants (most often OpenAI's API for GPT-4, or Google's Gemini).

The Terms of Service (ToS) for enterprise APIs do stipulate that these tech giants no longer use these texts to train future models. That is a fact. However, your writing still travels across and is temporarily stored on multiple remote servers.
